Contract Case

Unconventional Case

The Contract Case now consists of several rounds of presentations for a complete marketing campaign.

The contract case offers an immersive experience that faithfully recreates the day-to-day reality of a marketing agency. Delegates, grouped into teams of four, must develop a complete marketing campaign and present it to a jury during an intensive day structured around three successive rounds.

As part of this exercise, each team must first present itself as a fully-formed agency, outlining its mission, vision, and objectives, with the goal of convincing the jury and winning the contract. Strategic thinking plays a central role, as does advertising creation and decisions related to media buying and placement, which are essential elements for the success of a well-orchestrated campaign.

One distinctive feature of this case is the preparation that precedes it: even before the Happening Marketing weekend takes place, teams must develop a complete visual identity for their fictional agency, including a logo and a cohesive brand image. This preliminary work adds an extra dimension to the exercise, requiring delegates to think of their agency as a genuine market entity, distinct and memorable, even before the competition itself begins.

The Contract Case stands out from the other cases through its three-round elimination structure and the immersive experience it offers: teams must act as a true marketing agency competing to win a contract, with everything that entails, including visual identity preparation, strategic thinking, and a presentation before a jury. It is also one of the longest and most demanding cases in the competition, with Round 2 including a nine-hour resolution period in isolation at the hotel, starting in the middle of the night.

Each round raises the bar in complexity: Round 1 is used to separate the strongest market analyses among all teams and to introduce their agency, Round 2 assesses the ability to complete a full mandate under pressure, and Round 3, reserved for the three finalists, brings teams back for a shorter resolution period paired with a final mandate, meant to reinforce the relevance of their solutions and help them stand out from competing teams to secure a spot at the top of the podium.
